16 Things in Your Bedroom You Should Toss Today

Your bedroom can easily become cluttered without you even noticing. Over time, things pile up that don’t serve you anymore or just take up space. Clearing out those items can make your room feel more open and relaxing.

Knowing what to toss helps you create a cleaner, more peaceful space that feels easier to unwind in. You don’t need to wait until a big clean-up day—starting to let go of unnecessary stuff today can make a big difference.

Old receipts

You probably have a bunch of old receipts lying around. Most of the time, they’re not needed after a few weeks.

Keep the rare ones for returns or warranties, but toss the rest. Holding on to them only adds clutter and makes your space messier. Try checking your wallet or drawers regularly to clear out old receipts. It’s an easy way to keep your bedroom tidy.

Empty pill bottles

You probably have some empty pill bottles sitting around. They can take up space and collect dust. If you want to throw them away, make sure to remove any personal information. Soaking them in warm soapy water helps erase labels.

If you like, you can also reuse them for organizing small items like paper clips or coins. Otherwise, toss those bottles to clear your space.

Worn-out throw pillows

You might have some old throw pillows taking up space. If they’re flat, stained, or smelly, it’s time to toss them. Keeping worn-out pillows can make your room look messy. Plus, they won’t give you any comfort.

Instead, replace them with fresh ones or donate pillows in good shape. Your room will feel cleaner and more inviting.

Expired makeup

You should toss old makeup because it can cause skin irritation or infections. Powder products like eyeshadow and blush last longer, but liquids like mascara and foundation expire faster.

If your makeup smells off or changes texture, it’s time to throw it away. Keeping expired products isn’t worth the risk to your skin.

Torn bedding

Torn bedding can make your bedroom look messy and old. It’s time to toss any sheets or pillowcases with holes or frayed edges. Worn-out bedding also feels less comfortable. Replacing them helps you sleep better and keeps your space fresh.

You don’t need to keep extra sets that are damaged. Let go of torn bedding and enjoy a cleaner, cozier room.

Dusty bookshelves

If your bookshelves are dusty, it’s time to clean and declutter. Dust can make your space feel messy and affect air quality. Look over your books and decide which ones you really want to keep. Toss any that are damaged or that you won’t read again.

A tidy shelf makes your room look cleaner and helps you find your favorite books faster.

Broken chargers

If you have chargers that don’t work or have frayed cords, it’s time to toss them. Broken chargers can be unsafe and might damage your devices.

Sometimes, chargers get wet or stop working. If you can’t fix them easily, it’s better to recycle or throw them away. Keeping only the chargers you use helps keep your space neat.

Cluttered nightstand junk

Your nightstand can easily turn into a catch-all for stuff you don’t need. Toss old receipts, dirty tissues, and empty bottles.

Keep a small trash bin nearby to avoid piling up junk. Clearing this space helps your bedroom feel tidier and more relaxing at night.

Used tissues

You might find used tissues scattered on your nightstand or under the bed. They carry germs and make your space messy.

It’s best to throw them away right after you use them. Keep a small trash bin nearby to make cleaning easier. This keeps your bedroom cleaner and healthier.

Excessive workout gear

Having too much workout gear in your bedroom can make the space feel cluttered. It might also make it harder to relax.

If you don’t use some equipment or clothes often, it’s okay to get rid of them. Keeping only what you need helps keep your room tidy and calm.

Old magazines

You probably have old magazines collecting dust in your bedroom. They can take up space and add clutter.

If there are pages with ideas you like, tear them out and keep just those. Toss the rest to free up room and reduce mess. Check if any are worth selling before throwing them away.

Empty water bottles

You might find empty water bottles lying around your bedroom. They take up space and can make your room look messy.

Make it a habit to toss them as soon as you finish using them. This keeps your space cleaner and easier to organize. Check under your bed or around your room for any forgotten bottles. Getting rid of them helps keep your bedroom fresh.

Outdated decor

You should toss old fake plants that have lost their charm. Worn rugs near your door can make your room look tired.

Word art or dated scent holders might feel stuck in the past. If you have any broken or old furniture that feels unsafe, it’s time to let it go. Your room will feel fresher without these old pieces.

Unfinished notebooks

You probably have notebooks with just a few pages used. Instead of keeping them, think about tossing those that no longer inspire you.

If you want, use leftover pages for quick notes or lists before letting go. Holding on to too many half-finished notebooks can clutter your space and mind. Letting them go can make your bedroom feel less crowded and help you focus on what matters.

Expired candles

You might not think about expired candles, but they do have a shelf life. Most candles stay good for about 1 to 2 years. After that, they can lose their scent and burn unevenly.

If your candles are old, it’s best to toss them. Using expired candles can make your room smell weird or cause smoke.

Unused jewelry boxes

If you have jewelry boxes just sitting around, it’s time to clear them out. These boxes take up space and often don’t serve a purpose.

You can donate them to thrift stores or recycle small cardboard ones. Getting rid of extra boxes helps keep your bedroom less cluttered and more organized.
