12 Things I Always Keep in My Entryway Closet

The entryway closet: it’s the first thing you interact with when you come home, and the last thing you check before you leave. It’s a small space, but it has the power to set the tone for your day. If it’s chaotic and messy, it can make your morning rush even more stressful.

But if it’s well-organized and stocked with everything you need, it can make your daily routine a breeze. Here are the twelve things I always keep in my entryway closet to ensure it serves me, rather than hinders me.

1. A Durable Shoe Rack

A shoe rack is a non-negotiable. It keeps the floor space clear and helps you quickly find the pair of shoes you need. Opt for a durable, easy-to-clean material like metal or plastic, and ensure it has ample space for every family member’s most frequently worn shoes.

I love the ones with tiers because they maximize vertical space, allowing for more storage. If you have children, consider a lower rack for their shoes, so they can easily reach and organize their own footwear.

2. Umbrellas

Living in a place where the weather changes frequently means umbrellas are a must-have. I keep a handful of compact, sturdy umbrellas in my closet.

The key is to make sure to dry them out after use before storing them away. This prevents any unpleasant odors and extends the lifespan of the umbrellas.

3. Reusable Shopping Bags

In an effort to be more eco-conscious, I’ve swapped out plastic bags for reusable ones. I always keep a stash in my entryway closet.

Having them readily available means I’m less likely to forget them when I head out for grocery shopping. Plus, many stores now offer discounts for customers who bring their own bags.

4. Spare Keys

I store a set of spare keys in my closet. It’s a convenient and easy-to-remember location.

Remember, it’s always a good idea to have a spare set of keys. It can save you a lot of stress and potential locksmith bills if you ever lock yourself out.

5. A Compact Mirror

A compact mirror is a small addition that can save you from wardrobe malfunctions or makeup mishaps.

Before you leave the house, a quick glance can help you spot any issues and fix them promptly, ensuring you always look your best.

6. Pet Supplies

If you have a pet, dedicating a section of your entryway closet to their essentials can be a game-changer. Leashes, harnesses, poop bags, and a towel for wet paws all find a home here.

This makes it easy to find everything you need for a quick walk or a trip to the vet.

7. A Lint Roller

A lint roller is another essential. It’s perfect for quickly tidying up your outfit before you head out.

With a couple of quick swipes, you can remove pet hair, lint, or dust, ensuring you always look neat and presentable.

8. Seasonal Accessories

Depending on the season, I rotate items like scarves, gloves, and sun hats in my closet.

Having these items at the ready makes it easy to grab what you need based on the weather. It’s all about making your life easier and more efficient.

9. A Flashlight

You never know when you might need a flashlight. I keep one in the closet for easy access.

Whether it’s for a late-night dog walk or a sudden power outage, having a flashlight handy can be a lifesaver.

10. A Donation Box

I keep a small box for items I plan to donate. It’s an easy way to declutter and give back to the community.

Every time I come across something I no longer need or use, I put it in the box. Once it’s full, I take it to a local charity.

11. A Small Tool Kit

A small tool kit with the basics – a hammer, measuring tape, screwdriver – is incredibly handy.

You never know when you might need to tighten a loose screw or measure a piece of furniture. Having these tools easily accessible saves a lot of time and hassle.

12. A First Aid Kit

Last but certainly not least, a basic first aid kit. Having band-aids, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, and pain relievers nearby can prove very helpful.

In case of minor accidents or emergencies, you’ll be glad you have it within reach.

The key to an efficient entryway closet is to keep it stocked with things that make your life easier. With these items, you’ll be prepared for any situation, and your daily routine will be smoother and less stressful.
